The Little Bean That Grew is a children's story inspired by the true story of Hazel, a young dog who was found abandoned and tied to a gate on a freezing December morning before finding her forever home.

Through Hazel's journey from rescue dog to much-loved family companion, the book introduces children to themes of kindness, resilience, responsible pet ownership and the importance of giving rescue animals a second chance.

But Hazel's story is only part of the book. It was also created as a way to help children learn about dogs in a fun and accessible way, encouraging conversations between children and adults about caring for dogs, understanding their needs and building safe, positive relationships with them.

Alongside the story, the book includes additional educational content for parents and children, bringing together Hazel's real-life experiences with Val's professional knowledge of dog behaviour and training.

At its heart, The Little Bean That Grew is a story about what can happen when one small dog is given the chance to feel safe, learn, grow and discover just how big her world can become.
